Analysis Report on the Filing Status of New Cosmetic Ingredients in China – January 2026

To help stakeholders stay informed of the latest developments and gain insights into market trends, this article provides a systematic review and in-depth analysis of the cosmetic ingredient filings published by China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) in January 2026. The report mainly covers the number of new ingredient filings during the month, basic information about the filing enterprises, the regional distribution of domestic filers, ingredients that have been filed multiple times, and interpretations of selected ingredients. It aims to offer valuable data support and information references for the cosmetics industry.

II. Overview of Enterprises Filing for New Cosmetic Ingredients

(I) Domestic and Overseas Distribution of Enterprises Filing for New Ingredients

As shown in Figure 1, among the 19 new cosmetic ingredients that obtained filing numbers in January 2026, 18 were filed by domestic filers, accounting for approximately 94.7%, while 1 was filed by an overseas filer based in Germany, Evonik Operations GmbH, accounting for about 5.3%. The number of domestic filers significantly exceeds that of overseas filers.

(II) Domestic Enterprises

Based on the analysis of filing data for new cosmetic ingredients, 18 approved ingredients were individually filed by 14 different enterprises. Among them, Beijing Shangjie Youlan Technology Co., Ltd., Yunnan Botanee Bio-Technology Group Co., Ltd., Wenzhou Gumu Biotechnology Co., Ltd., and Novate (Kunming) Biotechnology Co., Ltd. each filed two new cosmetic ingredients. All other companies filed only one new ingredient.

III. Distribution of Domestic Enterprises Filing for New Cosmetic Ingredients by Province

According to the analysis of new ingredient filing data, a total of 18 new cosmetic ingredients were filed by domestic enterprises in China, involving 14 companies across nine provincial-level regions. The provinces and regions include Yunnan, Beijing, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Fujian, Hainan, Jiangsu, Shandong and Shanghai. 

As shown in Figure 2, among all domestic provinces and regions where the filing companies are located, Yunnan recorded the highest number of new cosmetic ingredient filings, with four, accounting for 21% of the total filings in January 2026.

IV. Frequently Filed New Cosmetic Ingredients

According to the statistics, among the 19 newly registered cosmetic ingredients mentioned above, β-Nicotinamide Mononucleotide has been filed 13 times at different times by different filers. Tremella-related ingredients have been filed 8 times, and Ejiao Peptide has been filed 2 times.

V. Interpretation of Selected Ingredients

According to available information, Ganoderma ieucocontextum, is primarily found on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. It is a rare species of reishi mushroom that grows at high altitudes. While its appearance resembles the common Ganoderma iucidum, its flesh is snow-white with a unique and pleasant aroma. In 2015, it was identified as a new species within the Ganoderma genus. In recent years, increasing attention has been given to Ganoderma leucocontextum, with significant progress made in the study of its chemical constituents and pharmacological effects. To date, 95 compounds have been identified from this species, mainly including triterpenoids, meroterpenoids, and polysaccharides. These compounds exhibit a range of pharmacological activities, such as anti-tumor, hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic, and immunomodulatory effects.

Ottelia acuminata is a perennial aquatic herb belonging to the family Hydrocharitaceae and the genus Ottelia. It is primarily distributed in Dali and Erhai areas of Yunnan Province, China, and also found in Guangdong, Hainan, Guangxi, Sichuan, and Guizhou. As an endemic species to China, Ottelia acuminata is listed as a nationally protected rare and endangered aquatic medicinal plant. Meanwhile, species under the genus Ottelia are also considered important bioindicators for the health of freshwater ecosystems.

Dictyophora rubrovalvata, a rare gelatinous fungus endemic to Yunnan and Guizhou provinces in China, is highly prized for its elegant appearance and rich nutritional profile. Commonly referred to as the “Fairy in a Snowy Skirt” in Chinese folklore, it has long been valued as a dual-purpose edible and medicinal ingredient (food-medicine homologous). It is rich in bioactive compounds such as polysaccharides, polyphenols, and flavonoids.

Indica Rice (Oryza sativa subsp. indica) is a subspecies of cultivated rice in China. It is well-suited for cultivation in tropical and subtropical regions, and was originally distributed across the Indian subcontinent (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh), Sri Lanka, the Indochinese Peninsula, and southern China. In China, it is primarily grown in the tropical regions of South China and the subtropical lowlands south of the Huai River. Compared to japonica rice, indica rice thrives under long daylight conditions and is more tolerant of heat and drought. It has a shorter growth cycle, allowing for two to three harvests per year, and generally yields higher output. The grains are long with low stickiness, and they contain higher levels of protein and amylose.

Gynura divaricata (L.) DC., commonly known as Bai Zi Cai, is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the genus Gynura in the family Asteraceae. It is native to Singapore and distributed in northern Vietnam, as well as in regions such as Guangdong and Hainan in China. Research has shown that Gynura divaricata possesses high nutritional value and a pleasant taste. It is rich in bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, polysaccharides, and alkaloids. The plant also has notable medicinal properties. Pungent and mild in nature, the whole plant is used in traditional medicine for clearing heat and detoxifying, relaxing tendons and promoting bone healing, cooling blood and stopping bleeding, lowering blood pressure, blood sugar, and blood lipids, as well as for its anti-cancer, antioxidant, antimutagenic, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial effects.

Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch, a perennial herbaceous plant in the legume family (Fabaceae), is traditionally known in classical Chinese medicine as the “State Elder” (Guolao). It is believed to “neutralize hundreds of toxins, harmonize various medicines, and replenish Qi deficiency.” As a key ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) compound formulations, it plays a crucial role in balancing medicinal properties and enhancing therapeutic efficacy.
